How I do what I do

As a reminder, my why is I provide an outside perspective on the way people work together in change roles and in doing so help people, teams and organisations understand and improve how they affect change.

I do this by creating the conditions for people to inspect their approach to working together and adapt, this involves:

helping people to be curious about:

  • the work they are engaged in
  • where they need to get to and by when
  • where they are now
  • their successes and challenges so far
  • the affect that their organisation, teams and other stakeholders have
  • creating physiologically safe spaces so that everyone can be comfortable sharing their challenges
  • building in opportunities to experience learning as opposed to receiving it solely through the eyes and ears
  • encourage learning, growth and improvement
  • making introductions to people who have had similar challenges
  • sharing personal experiences and resources such as videos & blog posts
  • Being the 'Glue' bringing the right people together to get things done

The 'how' for me is often the so called "soft" skills which in fact are core competencies. Curiosity, learning, growth, sharing, networking, safety.

Notes

Some of my thinking while writing this:

  • It is very tempting to talk about the what instead of the how. I have saved that for next time.
